Dorothy was born April 13, 1926, in rural Lucas County near Russell to Raymond Case Coe and Rachel Elizabeth Aldrich Coe. She was the next to youngest of 9 children. She remembered going to country school at Germany School (later changed to Pershing School) hanging on to the coattails of her older brother Floyd, literally there were creases in his coat from her grip. After attending country school, she graduated from Chariton High School in 1944.
Dorothy was married to Harold Sellers in June of 1947 at the Belinda Christian Church. They were blessed with two children: Wanda and Dwaine. Not only was Dorothy busy raising her children, but she also worked at many different jobs including: Montgomery Wards, Spurgeons, Forest Grocery, Sunbeam Bakery, and in the kitchen at Van Allen Elementary. She was also well known for her AVON sales.
As far as hobbies are concerned, she stayed busy with many crafts and was an accomplished seamstress. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, cross-stitch, and sewing many outfits for her family. She also liked making ceramics and doing word puzzles. In the evenings and during the winter, she also liked to read a good book. Taking a drive in the country was something Harold and Dorothy enjoyed many afternoons, and they also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. Dorothy was quiet and reserved, but she liked to be active at her church. She arranged many meals for different functions at the Christian Church.
Her grandchildren remember her amazing macaroni and cheese. She loved helping watch the grandchildren as they grew up and was always excited to host a family get together with all her siblings and their families, which was often held over the Fourth of July. In later years, she enjoyed traveling to Arizona to stay with her sister and meet up with many of her siblings who wintered there.
Preceding Dorothy in death was her husband, Harold; her siblings: Raymond (Mayme) Coe, Charles Coe, Everett (Leona) Coe, Robert Coe, Harold (Dora) Coe, Floyd (Maurine) Coe, Ellaline (Raymond) Taylor, and Vivian (Jim) Jenkins.
She will be greatly missed by her children: Wanda (Larry) King and Dwaine (Joy) Sellers; grandchildren: Eric (Kay Hartman) Sellers and Becky (Rob Yilek) Sellers; great grandchildren: Austin Sellers, Roewyn Yilek, Whitlee Yilek, Chiane Hartman, and Jaemi Hartman; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
