Dorothy Maxine Carter

Dorothy Maxine (Mitchell) Carter, age 96 of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away on Monday, January 24, 2022, at West Ridge Specialty Care in Knoxville.
Dorothy’s wishes were to be cremated. A family graveside service will be held on a later date at Greenwood Cemetery.
Dorothy was born on March 15, 1925, in Marion County, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Lillie (Cavin) Mitchell. She attended country school and graduated from the 8th grade.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Gerald Carter on November 17, 1944, in Knoxville, Iowa. They shared 69 years of marriage before Gerald’s passing on February 19, 2014. They were blessed with one son, Roger.
Dorothy was a homemaker and enjoyed babysitting and was a wonderful baker. She especially loved spending time with her family.
Those left to cherish Dorothy’s memory include her son, Roger Carter and his wife Dorothy of Knoxville; four grandchildren, Brad Carter and wife Linda, Lisa Carter, Wade Carter, and Jodi Counts and her husband Chris. She is also survived by two siblings, Helen Couchman and Lee Mitchell; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Carter; parents, Charles and Lillie Mitchell; and several siblings.
