When first married Doris traveled with Ralph to several different military bases, where he was stationed and they ended up in Fairbanks, Alaska. In 1956 they moved back to Knoxville and made their home on a farm west of town. Doris then worked at the Iowa State Savings Bank until she retired. She made many friends and acquaintances while working. Doris moved to Wilton, Iowa 5 months ago, to an assisted living apartment where she could be close to her son.

She loved to bake cookies and shared them with many.  Doris was a private individual, she was a long -time church member at the First Christian Church, then the Presbyterian Church. She loved feeding the squirrels, even feeding them cookies out of her hand. She took in a stray cat, KC who became a faithful companion in her last year.
