Doris Elaine Hansen Clemens

Doris Clemens passed away March 7, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society in Indianola at the age of 98 years. Funeral services will be held March 12th, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Avon Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Doris’ name to EveryStep Hospice.

Doris was born in Audubon County on February 26, 1926, to parents Jens Mumgaard Hansen and Botilda Berthea Mortensen Hansen. Doris was the fourth of five girls born to this family. The family moved to Buena Vista County in 1939 and Doris graduated from Newell High School in 1944.

In 1945, Doris moved to Des Moines to work at Bankers Trust. In 1946, she was married to James B. Clemens. Jim and Doris had three children born to this union: Susan, Patricia Griffin, and Linda Maxwell. The family moved to Decatur County in 1964 where Doris drove a school bus for Clarke Community Schools for nineteen years.

Doris was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Susan Elaine; husband, James; and four sisters: Gladys, Leona, Marjorie, and Verla.

Doris dearly loved her family. Surviving are her daughters, Patricia Griffin and Linda Maxwell; grandchildren, Kim and Bret; twin great granddaughters, Alexis and Kinzie Maxwell.

Doris was the best mother, grandmother, and great grandmother anyone could ever have. She could correct children with just a look and she never swore! She never said an unkind word about anyone. Her motto was, “If you can't say something nice, don't say anything.”
