Donna Sallee

Services for Donna Sallee, 88, will be held Friday, April 21, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in Donna’s name to the Chariton Public Library.

Donna Jean Walker was born June 10, 1934, to Jesse “Earl” and Hazel Mae Walker in Maryville, Missouri. Donna grew up alongside four siblings: Vera, Esther, Dorothy, and Jack. They were raised in the Maryville and Burlington Junction, Missouri areas. Donna graduated from Burlington Junction High School with the class of 1952.

On November 17, 1952, Donna was united in marriage to Herman Addison Sallee in Maryville. The couple was blessed with two sons, Stephen Craig and Michael Addison. They made their home in Chariton, Iowa.

Donna worked for Hy-Vee for nineteen years. She worked in the sign shop at the Chariton Distribution Center and enjoyed working in the Des Moines offices as well.

One of Donna’s greatest passions was reading. She loved working at the Chariton Public Library, she had an impressive collection of books at home, and the employees at Barnes & Noble knew her by name. Donna was also an active member of several book clubs over the years.

In addition to her book clubs, Donna was involved in local PEO Chapter N, she was a member of Faculty Wives, and she attended the First United Methodist Church in Chariton.

Donna passed away April 17, 2023. She is survived by her sons, Mike (JoAnn) Sallee of Russell and Steve (Pat) Sallee of Chariton; grandsons, Jason Sallee and Jesse Sallee; and several great grandchildren.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse “Earl” and Hazel Walker; husband, Herman Sallee; and siblings: Vera, Esther, Dorothy, and Jack.
