Donna J. Irving, 85, passed away suddenly at her home on June 16, 2020. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Lucas County Humane Society or the Chariton Volunteer Fire Department. The service may be viewed on the Pierschbacher Funeral Home Facebook page at time of service. Donna Jean was born August 3, 1934 at the Davis family farm to Willard and Frances (Schrader) Davis. Donna weighed only 2 pounds when she was born, and many stories were told of placing her in a shoebox in the oven to stay warm and pinning her to a pillow with granddads handkerchief to keep her from breaking her little arms and legs. She grew up with much love from family and neighbors and attended country school and graduated from Chariton High School in 1952. Donna worked at Stone Cordage as one of her first jobs and met Sam Irving while working there. They were married in November of 1953. The beginning of over 66 years together. She worked side by side with Sam in running the station until retiring in 2006. She enjoyed being able to visit with everyone who came in the shop and especially liked the 1000's of "Garfield" kids who came up over the years on their lunch hour at school. Donna also enjoyed working with Curran's Auctions, once again getting to visit and meet people as well as find a few treasures at the auctions. She was well known for making cakes and had made many for special occasions. Donna had mastered Grandma Davis homemade noodle recipe, and the grandchildren will remember her "creamies", a version of a chocolate shake, but much more special. Donna was also well known for her love of birds and animals and was very good at caring for animals that needed TLC or a home. Donna also enjoyed going to the horse races and watching her horses run. Most of all Donna loved her family. She always liked to help people and had taken care of several family members throughout the years. She had a kind and tender heart that will be missed by all those close to her. Donna will be greatly missed by her husband of 66 years, Sam Irving; children: Patty Howard, Tony Lee (Melodee) Irving, Sally Jo (Steve) Loomis, and Steve (Toni) Irving; 9 grandchildren: Heather, Brett, Kiley, Scott, Travis, Emily, Chance, Nick, and Andy; 23 great grandchildren; siblings, Fred Davis and Larry (Mickey) Davis; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Frances Davis. Visitation
