Donna Jean Hall

Donna Jean Hall, 89, of Lucas, passed away May 21, 2023. A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 26, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Chariton Cemetery. Memorials may be made in care of Donna's family.

Donna Jean Hall, beloved mother, passed away at the age of 89. Donna was born in Lucas County, Iowa on February 19th, 1934, to Andy and Cleo Gwinn. She grew up near Woodburn and graduated from Chariton High School in 1952.

In addition to being a devoted mother, Donna had a dynamic career that included working at Yocom Hospital, Lucas Products, and Donna and Don ran the Lucas Conoco Station and the café and station at the Ottoway corner for many years. Despite the demands of work and raising a family, Donna always made time for her passions in life.

One such passion was gambling at the casino. Donna loved nothing more than hitting the jackpot or winning big while playing her favorite games. Alongside long hours at work, Donna treasured family trips, and spending time under the shade trees at their farm.

Additionally, Donna had a particular fondness for attending auctions and farm sales with her husband, Don and would sometimes end up bidding against each other. Don and Donna's love story was one that stood the test of time, spanning several decades filled with many beautiful memories shared together.

Donna was also an avid country music fan who never turned down an opportunity to hit the dance floor. She enjoyed holiday meals with her family - especially Thanksgiving - where everyone would gather around the table to enjoy each other's company and celebrate their shared traditions.

Despite all her interests that kept her busy throughout life, Donna took great pleasure watching her family grow over the years. Her kind heart and nurturing nature were ever present as she supported each member of her family through joys and challenges alike.

Donna will be dearly missed by her children: Chris Hall, Cheryl Buchanan, Cathy Hall, and Cindy (Mickie Brown) Griswold; 8 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; siblings: Alvin (Daisy) Gwinn, Charlene (Dwayne) Wineland, and Andy (Kay) Gwinn; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.

Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Charles Hall; son, Michael Hall; sister, Marilyn (Sonny) Slack; and granddaughter, Kandalynn Hall.

Donna's memory will carry on through the countless lives she touched and leaves behind a legacy that will never be forgotten. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends who take comfort in knowing that Donna is now at peace.
