Donald Horras

Donald "Don" Edward Horras, 80, of Knoxville, Iowa passed away February 25, 2021. A Celebration of Life Service will be held March 20, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Harvey United Methodist Church. Don was cremated under the care of Pierschbacher Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. Donald Horras was born September 8, 1940 in Oskaloosa, Iowa to Clifford and Opal (Schimmelpfennig) Horras. They lived on a farm in the Sigourney area, and he attended a country school, graduating in 1958. Don enlisted in the Army and was stationed stateside in Tacoma, Washington in between the Korea and Vietnam wars. He married Mary Beatrice Gerry on October 29, 1994. Don was blessed with gaining two children with his union to Mary. With Don's five children, they completed their family of seven. In 2011, they moved to Knoxville. Don was an avid outdoorsman with a true love for nature. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and looking for mushrooms. He loved farming and being an agronomist, looking at the fields and really knowing his soils. This knowledge was important as he owned a Century Farm. Don didn't know a stranger. To know him was to love him. He had a deep faith and loved the Lord. He was always laughing and smiling and loved to tell one-line jokes. He also loved to travel all over the United States. Don will be missed by his wife, Mary; children: DeEtt Pieper (Dan), Duane Horras (Wendy), Matthew Horras (Cindy), Jesse Horras (Kristin), Molly Nuhring (Nate), Scott Leeper, and Monica White (Cory); 11 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, Clifford and Opal, and a granddaughter, Melody. Celebration of Life
