Donald "Don" R. Thompson

Donald R. Thompson, 83, passed away on March 5, 2024. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton, Iowa, with a visitation an hour prior beginning at 10:00 a.m. Memorials may be directed in Don’s name to the Ingemann Danish Lutheran Church in Moorhead, Iowa.

Donald Raymond Thompson was born to Orville and Helen (Luscombe) Thompson on March 12, 1940, in Pocahontas, Iowa.

He grew up in western Iowa, graduating from Danburg High School in 1958. He then attended various auto mechanic schools.

On December 1, 1963, Donald married Jeanine Jepson in Moorhead, Iowa. They were parents to Paul and Pamela.

They lived in Rockford, Illinois from 1963 to 1979. They then moved to Aledo, Illinois and lived there for thirty years. Don was involved in the SCCR, raced his racecar, and helped out at the racetrack in Rockton, Illinois. He was proud of the racecar that he built from a Datsun. Don was a mechanic for many years and was very skilled in his profession.

His hobbies included fishing and anything to do with cars. He loved to visit with family and friends. His storytelling with be missed by many.

Don will be greatly missed by his son, Paul (Marie) Thompson; daughter, Pam (Mike) Salmon; grandchildren: Sabrina Thompson, Betsy (Zac) Armington, Alex (Alexandra Layne) Salmon, Jesse (Cheyanne) Salmon, Emily (John) Severino; great grandchildren: Talen, Jasper, Linkin, and Boden; brothers, Orville Thompson and Tim (Gail) Thompson; sisters: Evelyn Rose, Betty Towne, and Thelma Thompson; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jeanine Thompson (Jepson); sisters, Marion Isom and Merrill Thompson; brother, Dan Thompson; nephew, Billy Thompson; and infant grandson, Richie Salmon.
