Donald Charles Hall

Donald C. Hall, 84, of rural Lucas, passed away June 21, 2019 at his home. Graveside funeral services will be Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Chariton Cemetery. No visitation is planned. Donald Charles Hall was born September 3, 1934 and passed from this life on June 21, 2019. Don was born to Clifford Charlie and Lillian Rose Hall on September 3, 1934 in Lucas County, Iowa. He had two older brothers and one younger. He lived in the Lucas County area throughout his childhood and teen years. In 1952 he was united in marriage with Donna Jean Gwinn. They had five children together. The majority of their marriage was spent living in Lucas County. Don worked several different jobs throughout his long life: selling insurance, driving a tire truck, factory work, and a few other things. The biggest part of his working years was spent running gas stations. His wife Donna and son Chris worked in them as well. All of his daughters helped out too. Don was a hard worker as is his wife. He instilled a hard work ethic in his children. Don loved life, his family, laughing, playing cards, puzzle books, old time country music, singing, and helping people. He was always there for anyone and people of all ages loved him. He never met a stranger. He loved his grandkids - loved teasing them, watching them grow, joking with them, visiting, and always enjoyed watching "Scary Movies" with them. He laved that he was able to know his great grandchildren. One of his greatest joys was at Thanksgiving when most of the family would gather at home for the holiday. He so enjoyed all of it. He said at one of those Thanksgivings, "This is what family is about!" He said it with the biggest smile on his face. He took great pleasure, joy, and pride in the growth and love of his family. He will be greatly missed but will always be in our hearts and dreams. Don is survived by his wife of 67 years, Donna Hall; children: Chris (Nina) Hall, Cheryl (Buck) Buchanan, Cathy Hall, and Cindy (Mickie Brown) Griswold; 8 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents: Clifford and Lillian Hall; brothers: Robert, Paul, and Gene; son, Michael; and granddaughter, Kandalynn Hall.
