Dennis Henry Hoch was born on September 1, 1942, in Marion County, the eighth child of Norbert and Josephine Hoch, who lived on a farm west of Bauer. Denny attended school in Bauer.

Denny and Lois (Ripperger) were united in marriage on May 30, 1964, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Milo. The couple was blessed with three children: David, Deanna, and Derek.

Denny served in the National Guard from 1963 to 1969 and was a member of the American Legion. He was employed as Petroleum Manager for the South Central Co-Op in Lacona for 38 years. After retirement on September 1, 2000, from South Central Co-Op, he took employment at the Southeast Warren Community School District, where he worked for about 5 years.

Denny enjoyed fishing in his spare time, as well as picking up walnuts and shelling them out. He also enjoyed finding wild berries to pick and then sharing them with others.

Denny’s favorite thing to do was putting puzzles together, posting them on boards, and hanging them in his storage building. He enjoyed camping and sitting around the bonfires, visiting with family and friends. He loved teasing his two granddaughters and always treasured the time he spent with them. He loved his family and whatever the need be, he was always there with support.

Denny passed away October 10, 2022, at the age of 80. He is survived by his wife, Lois; children: David Hoch of Ames, Deanna (Joe) Akers of Grimes, and Derek Hoch of Des Moines; two granddaughters: Katlyn (Dylan) Gordon of Altoona and Kristen (Keaton) Madison of Boone; siblings: Andy Hoch, Mary Dittmer, Ron Hoch, and Ed (Linda) Hoch; sister-in-law, Pat Hoch; and many other relatives and friends.
