Dennis Lewis Dakin, Sr. age 72, of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, April 4, 2021 at his residence.
Dennis was born on January 16, 1949 in Forest City, Iowa, the son of Gordon and Avis (Fisher) Dakin. He was raised on a dairy farm there and graduated from Forest City High School.
Dennis was united in marriage to Debra Ruth Aswegan on October 2, 1993 in Mason City, Iowa.
He was an over the road truck driver for 50 years before retiring. Dennis was very social and loved visiting with people. He was an avid fisherman. Dennis was greatly loved by his family and friends and will be missed by them all.
Dennis’ wishes were to be cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at the V.F.W. John Myers Post in Knoxville from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. with his family present to greet friends and relatives.
Those left to cherish Dennis’ memory include his wife, Deb Dakin; five children, Denny Dakin, Jr., Mary Lucas (Jon), April Dakin (Jeremy Miller), Connor Dakin, and Myla Dakin; two siblings, Don Dakin and Julie Rollefson (Roger); five grandchildren, JR, Miles, Landon, Zach, and Ian; one great-grandson, Wyatt; also his best friend of 60 years, Ron Lawton (Jane); and close friends, Heather and Tony Lynde and Jennifer Emig and her family. Dennis’ family also wishes to give a special thank you to their good friends and neighbors, Alan and Bobby Graves.
Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Avis Dakin; granddaughter, Sydney; also honorary grandmother, Myrth Smith.
Memorials may be given to Dennis’ family and will be distributed at a later date.
