Delbert Eugene Sylvester, age 82, of Albia, Iowa died early Saturday morning, March 11, 2006 at the Oakwood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Albia. He was born October 26, 1923 in Albia, Iowa to Carl Dewey and Doris (Pauley) Sylvester. He was a graduate of Albia High School, Class of 1941 and was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army in Africa and Italy. He was a painter and paperhanger by trade. Delbert enjoyed the outdoors; especially hunting, trapping and walking. Delbert was also affiliated with the First Christian Church of Albia. He is survived by three nephews, one niece, several cousins, and a special friend, Lois Tibbals of Albia. Delbert was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Carl Sylvester, Jr.; and one sister, Charlene in infancy. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at the Winfield Funeral Home in Albia with Rev. Lynda Carlson officiating. Burial with Military Rites conducted by the Howard Cessna Post #136 American Legion of Albia will be in the Hickory Grove Cemetery in rural Monroe County. Visitation will open after 9:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 14, 2006 with the family present from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at 11:00 A.M. An Open Memorial has been established.
