David Robert Sponsler

Funeral Services for David Sponsler, 64, of Chariton will be Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Interment will be at the Chariton Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Friday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home. Memorials may be made in David's name to the Chariton or Humeston Volunteer Fire Departments. David Robert Sponsler was born to Robert Reed Sponsler and Muriel DeVore Sponsler on June 25, 1953 in Leon. He was raised on the family farm near Humeston. David was raised as a member of the Humeston Methodist Church. He attended Mormon Trail Community School and graduated in 1971. He was involved in 4-H and FFA as a youth. David enjoyed showing beef and pork projects at county and state fairs. He farmed in partnership with his parents for many years in Wayne, Decatur, and Lucas Counties. On April 29, 1990 David was united in marriage to Patty Lee Duree at the First Baptist Church in Chariton. He was baptized at the First Baptist Church and was a long time member. Patty and David made their home in Humeston and later moved to Chariton. He had a great love for farming and especially enjoyed raising cows. His second passion was working for Hy-Vee. He began working at the Distribution Center in 1992 as an assistant manager, working for over 25 years and only retiring because of his health. David loved his job and put his heart and soul into it everyday. He was named employee of the year in 2004, 2005, and 2006. Everyone that worked for David said he was the best boss they ever had. David was very intelligent and loved reading. He read multiple daily newspapers from front to back and many books and periodicals. David also spent many hours surfing the web. Dave passed away March 19th at the Legacy Lodge. Preceding him in death were his father, Robert Sponsler; grandmothers: Madge Hazen and Ethel DeVore; grandfather: Clyde DeVore; aunt, Alma DeVore; father and mother-in-law: Leo and Erma Duree; and nephew Roy Bingham. Surviving are his wife: Patty Duree Sponsler of Chariton; his mother, Muriel DeVore Sponsler (age 92) of Osceola; sisters: Kathy (Glenn) Heckman of Weldon, and Kristen Sponsler of England; brother, Reed 'Doyce' (Dianna) Sponsler of Des Moines; sisters-in-law: Kathy (Roger) Bingham of Chariton, and Peggy (Danny) Crooks of Lucas.
