Darwin Keith McCombs, age 59 of Des Moines, formerly of Marysville, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2021.
A family memorial service with military honors will be held at a later date at the Marysville cemetery.
Darwin was born on November 19, 1961 in Knoxville, Iowa. He was raised in Marysville and attended Twin Cedars High School. Darwin enrolled in the Army in 1980. He completed his Infantry Training at Fort Benning, Georgia in 1981. He was transferred to Fort Sill, Oklahoma where he completed his training as a Lance Missile Crewman in 1982.
Darwin loved the medical field and worked as a phlebotomist at Mercy Hospital and was also a paramedic for the city of Pleasantville.
Growing up Darwin was affectionately known by his nickname, “Guber”. He was passionate about Iowa Hawkeye football and treasured the times he went fishing with his Dad. He loved being outdoors especially during morel mushroom season. Darwin enjoyed muscle cars and motorcycles. He inherited his excellent cooking skills from his mom. Darwin could whip up the best cinnamon rolls around.
Darwin is survived by his children, Stacy (Ryan) Jahnke, Alishia (Kyle) Pals, and Joshua McCombs; his grandchildren: Alexandria, MacKenzie, Madison, Levi, Elijah, and Ariah; his sisters, Ardeth (Randy) Klobnak and Tina Klobnak along with many nieces and nephews.
Darwin was preceded in death by his parents Keith and Ruth Arlene (Pettyjohn) McCombs, his grandparents, and many aunts and uncles.
The Winfield Funeral Home in Knoxville is assisting Darwin’s family with services.
