Danny Ben “Popeye” Wooldridge, age 91, of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away on October 17, 2022, at Accura Healthcare in Knoxville.
Danny was born on October 28, 1930, in Ottumwa, Iowa, one of 16 children born to Dale and Verda Ball Wooldridge. Danny grew up in Marion County and attended schools in Pleasantville and Knoxville.
Danny served in the United States Army from 1952-1954 during the Korean War and was stationed in Alaska.
Danny was united in marriage to Jacqueline White Sparks on July 3, 1961, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He worked for five years at Maytag in Newton, then went to work for Iowa Electric Light & Power, where he was employed for over 36 years.
Danny is survived by his wife, Jackie of Knoxville; two sons, Danny Allen (Heather) Wooldridge and Don (Cheryl) Sparks, all of Knoxville; five grandchildren, Hannah Wooldridge and Ben Wooldridge of Knoxville, Matthew Wooldridge of Minnesota, Amanda Sparks of Knoxville, and Adam Sparks of Waukee. Danny is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Beau Wooldridge, and Harper and Piper Sparks; one sister, Mary Pregon of Pershing; and one brother, Jack Wooldridge of Knoxville.
Danny is preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Verda Wooldridge; five sisters, Betty Wooldridge, Bonnie Schrader, Jane “Jiggs” Bales, JoAnn Cameron and Wanda Sellers. Danny is also preceded in death by eight brothers, Bob, Bill, Pete, Dale “Junior”, Charles “Chuck”, Donald “Buck”, Marvin “Hub”, and Dale who died in infancy.
Per Danny’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service. His wishes were to be cremated. A private burial will be held at Eureka Cemetery, near Harvey.
Winfield Funeral Home in Knoxville is assisting Danny’s family with his arrangements.
