Danny Ray Chandler was born on September 25, 1958, in Osceola, Iowa, to Vern Eldon and Shirley Ann (Garner) Chandler. He grew up on the family farm and remained a farm boy at heart. He always enjoyed being outdoors and working on the land.
Dan married his high school sweetheart, Brenda Lee Frazier, on October 7, 1978. The two were blessed with three children: Kenton Jon, Kathleen Ann, and Ryan Andrew.
Dan started his career at the Hy-Vee in Chariton in 1977. He then went on to work for Hy-Vee stores in Omaha in 1984, followed by Eldora, Centerville, and Galesburg. Dan worked for Hy-Vee for 34 years before taking a position with PDI as a buyer for the last 7 years of his career. He retired after 41 years of dedication and service.
Dan loved the outdoors, chopping wood, tinkering and building in the shed, golfing, and he especially loved hunting. He spent much of his free time at the cabin in the country with his family. Family meant everything to Dan. He was always involved with his kids’ activities, even coaching many of the sports they were in. You could always find Dan attending all of the events his kids were involved in.
Dan became a grandpa just three years ago. Dan was hands-down the most incredible Ampy/Pappy to his four grandkids, Ruth Caroline (3), Lincoln Knox (2), Emmie Leigh (6 months), and Penny Rae (3 months). They enjoyed many activities together including baking cookies, taking them on tractor and ranger rides, taking them to the park, and spoiling them with ice cream.
Dan was quick witted and funny, known for his unmatched work ethic, and an absolute joy to be around. He always had a way of telling long-winded and ever-changing stories, and singing songs with all of the wrong lyrics.
He will be endlessly missed by his wife, Brenda; children: Kenton (Jessica) Chandler, Kathleen (Phillip) Ernst, and Ryan Chandler; siblings: Dean (Kristi) Chandler and Sandy (Alan) Duckworth; grandchildren: Ruth Caroline Ernst, Penny Rae Ernst, Lincoln Knox Chandler, and Emmie Leigh Chandler; brothers-in law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vern and Shirley and sister, Ronda Jo Chandler.
