In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pin Oak Marsh or the Lucas County Pioneer Cemetery. Curtis Dean Shriver was born on July 11, 1959 the second child of Larry Shriver and Sharon Shriver Smith. Curt's older sister, Kerry Lynne died at age six from a heart defect. Curt soon gained his brother, Chris, and a sister, Kathy. Curt later gained a brother, Courtney, and two sisters, Crissy and Kay, when his father married Linda, his second mom. Curt attended Chariton Schools, and loved the Building Trades class under Harlan Ranshaw. Upon graduation he and a friend, Mike Sallee decided Colorado was the place to make their fortunes. They lived with Curt's uncle Gary. Mike worked construction, and Curt did everything from a door-to-door salesman to a pig farm. A year later they headed back to Iowa. Curt then worked for Frank Rodgers Construction, running a backhoe and "crawling around in the mud", as he put it. When Nestaway opened, he went to work as a fork-lift operator, and continued to work there until closing. On September 1, 1984, Curt and Christi Bingaman were married. Curt and Christi loved the outdoors and enjoyed many fishing and canoeing trips. Many of those trips were to Ely, MN accompanied by Curt's good friends; Larry Shanks, Mike Sallee, Matt Pillsbury, Doug Rowland, and Pat McRoberts. We heard many a story from these trips. Curt was an avid traveler and turkey and deer hunter, even tanning the hides. After Nestaway closed, Curt worked at C.T. Farm Supply in Chariton and then for a short time at Johnson Machine Works until his health started to deteriorate. Curt suffered a complicated and critical four-month long liver transplant. After many, many surgeries, he recovered enough to do light work. In 2008, Curt moved a trailer house to his mother's farm where he remained for another 13 years, doing farm work, mowing cemeteries, and his greatest passion of building muzzleloader guns and making his own powder horns. He could take almost any gun apart and make it work. His life ended abruptly when cancer overtook him. Curt is survived by his son, Mike (Danielle) Dyer; grandson Seth; his mother Sharon Smith; stepmother Linda Jurgens; his 105-year-old grandmother Martha Peterson; his brothers and sisters and their spouses; his very special nephews and nieces; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and good friends. Preceding him in death was his father Larry Shriver; Grandfather Paul Peterson; grandparents Ivan and Babe Shriver; and his sister Kerry Lynne. Visitation
