Due to the sudden and tragic circumstances of Conner's death, memorials may be made to his family in care of Brenda Mullen at PO Box 509 Chariton, IA 50049; and they will be designated at a later date to organizations that reflect Conner's life. Conner John Altenhofen was born on November 15, 1995 in Des Moines, Iowa to Daniel Joseph and Chris Ann Church Altenhofen and was welcomed home by brother, Vinnie. In October of 1998 Conner's life was changed forever, both his parents and brother died in a car accident. His grandmother, Ilene, moved into his house with him. Danny and Chris' close friends, Bruce and Brenda Mullen, provided Conner with a wonderful childhood. Conner attended First Baptist Church and was active in the Jr. and Sr. High youth programs going on several of their mission trips including one to New York City. He enjoyed playing Little League baseball, baseball and basketball in high school. Ever since he was a toddler he liked to tear things apart and fix them. His Mom found him outside working on something when she came home from work; he was two years old. Also as a young child he did not carry a blanket or teddy bear around, he carried a drop cord, testing every outlet he came across. Conner graduated from Chariton High School in 2014 and then attended DMACC graduating from the Automotive Technologies Program in 2016. He was a quick study and used his natural ability to figure out how to make things work. He used this ability to open his own auto repair shop. Occasionally he would be rewarded with homemade cookies brought to the shop by a client. He has been working on obtaining his pilots license for the few years and was excited to be only 10 hours away from completing his goal. Conner had a vision with big plans and lofty goals. He loved to go fishing, and had become an avid shooter. He made things interesting while shooting and using tannerite with his friends. He liked to mess with his Mustang, Dodge trucks, and motorcycles, and in the summer you could find him on the lake with his friends. He was a lifelong friend to many. Everyone would describe Conner as gentle, kind, soft hearted, giving, respectful, and always helping others. Good-byes hurt the most when the story was not finished. Preceding him in death were his parents: Danny and Chris Ann Altenhofen; his brother, Vinnie; grandparents: Maurice and Marcella Altenhofen and Ilene Church. Conner is survived by his best friend, Harley, his Husky dog; his extended family: Bruce and Brenda Mullen and their family: Shelley (Roger) Sapper and Stacey (Alex) Rasmussen; aunts and uncles: Dennis (Irma) Altenhofen, Ron Altenhofen, Roger (Mary) Altenhofen, Joyce Niffenegger, Les (Barbara) Altenhofen, Doug (Bonnie) Altenhofen, Pat (Naomi) Altenhofen, Neil Church, and Dwaine (Marge) Stewart; along with many cousins. He was especially close to Logan (Brianna) Drake and Marissa Giesken. He will be greatly missed by many many friends.
