Charles Joseph Conto Jr.

April 21, 1950 — October 20, 2023



Charles Joseph Conto Jr. lost his battle with stage four squamous cell lung cancer and went to be in the arms of Jesus on October 20, 2023, at the age of 73 in Chariton, Iowa.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at Truth Assembly of God, 339 N Grand St., Chariton, Iowa on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. It will be followed by a luncheon and a time of fellowship. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Charles’ family to assist with expenses.

Charles was born to Charles Joseph Condon Conto and Hattie Elsie (McFaul) Condon Conto on April 21, 1950, in Massena, NY.

Charles is survived by his wife, Naomi Mae (Mitchell) Conto; son, Leo Joseph Conto; daughter, Clair-Jhean (Todd) Mills; grandson, Zaine Mills; granddaughter, Cheyenne Mills all of Chariton; brother, John (Janet) Conto of Dover Plains, NY; sister-in-law, Barbra Conto of Massena, NY; brother-in-law, Tom Wing of Ogdensburg, NY; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Hattie; brothers: James Conto, George Condon, Richard Condon, Patrick Condon, Herbert Conto; sisters: Beverly (Pelkey) Condon, Joan (Harris) Conto, and Sue (Wing) Conto.

Charles was proud and honored to be a Vietnam War Veteran in the United States Marine Corps from 1967-1969, and the VFW Post Commander for four years in Hillsdale, NY.
