Memorials are requested to the Chariton River Valley Antique Power Club Association or the Columbia Fire Department. Charlie's sister Joy shared, "It was always an experience when traveling with Charlie! He always had an interest in cars, mainly in cars that did not run well." That could not be better said because life with Charlie was an experience. His mother's car trading and sales slogan for Charlie was "2 for 1, but they never run!" Charlie did enjoy collecting many things, but he was particularly good at looking at "junk" and seeing its potential. He had a talent for making "junk" into treasures. He even found the potential in Yugos, having 13 at one time. He enjoyed racing, both watching and working on the cars. He loved helping his sons and his friends put their cars together and get them tuned for the race. He especially enjoyed watching his son Mark and his granddaughters Autumnn and Abbie race as well as going to the races with friends. Everywhere you went, someone knew Charlie. He was active in Gas Engine and Tractor Clubs. He attended Swap meets all over, show casing rare treasures and finds, meeting thousands of people over the years. He enjoyed attending Old Threshers and Pierce's Pumpkin Patch where he was instrumental in the growth of exhibits. You would usually see him at the Thrashing Machine. Always a hard worker, Charlie started working at the age of 14 while growing up in Iconium and the surrounding area. He was born in Appanoose County on September 24, 1938 to Robert and Truis Turner. He graduated from Albia High School in 1956 and then attended Centerville Community College for two years and then attended Drake University, graduating in 1962 with a degree in business. He worked in Missouri for several years before owning and operating the Gambles store in Chariton for 7 years. He then worked for Goff and Nash in Knoxville for several years before going to McCorkle Hardware where he was a wealth of information and a valuable asset to the store for 41 years. Everyone who knew Charlie will miss his laugh, smile, and friendly hello. He will be greatly missed by his sons: Mark (Jennifer) Turner, Mike (Sherry) Turner, and Bob (Cindy) Turner; grandchildren: Amber (Nick) Schenck, Austin (Tiffani) Kicksey, Autumnn (Cameron Van Wyk) Turner, Abbie (Jonathon Hughes) Turner, Jared (Autumn) Turner, Amy (Ryan Henderson) Turner, Shon Plate, Ben (Linda) DeShaw, Beige (Rachel) Turner, and Kayen (Ashley) Turner; 10 great grandchildren; and a sister, Joy (Keith) Lindley. He is also survived by his long time special friend, Cayrol Morrow and her family: Bret Morrow, Cindy (Don) Slack, and Jackie (Sean) Maher; and bonus grandchildren: Nick Campbell and Brice Maher. Along with many relatives and friends. Visitation
