Cec was born November 19, 1926, in Waterloo, Iowa to Cecil and Alberta Close Redding. He grew up in Waterloo. He served with the United States Navy during WWII before graduating from Sacred Heart High School. Cec met Betty Dinger on a blind date. The couple was united in marriage on February 23, 1952. They made their home in the Waterloo and Jesup area.
Cec worked for Viking Pump as a Tool Grinder. He enjoyed being outdoors, going fishing and going on picnics. All these things he enjoyed with the love of his life, Betty. They were inseparable and enjoyed going on family vacations with the kids and traveling all over the country with each other.
Cec enjoyed taking flying lessons after the war, and always said that getting married ended his flying career. Cec had a great sense of humor! One of his favorite sayings was, “the best tasting watermelon is the kind you steal!” Cec was willing to try anything, he rode RAGBRI for several years and went skydiving with his grandson on his 80th birthday. He was a talented wood carver and loved to build and fly model airplanes. Cec didn’t know a stranger and made an impact on all who knew him. He also was an avid cribbage player.
In 2005, Cec and Betty moved to Humeston, Iowa. Betty and Cec were blessed with many children and grandchildren and looked forward to every family get-together. Betty passed away July 28, 2020.
Cec will be dearly missed by his children: Kristine (Dan) Thomas, Debra (Don) Nelson, and Paul Redding; grandchildren: Court Thomas, Justin Thomas, Brandon Redding, Lacia Redding, Jared Nelson, and Tyler Nelson; and great grandchildren: Milo, Hunter, Austin, Jacob, Liberty, Dominick, Lucy and Zyler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Alberta Redding, his wife, Betty; infant daughter, Laura; son, Steven Redding; and brother, Wayne Redding.
