Catherine Schurman

Catherine Schurman, 93, of Lacona passed away Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Good Samaritan Society - Indianola. Catherine was born to Victor & Myrtle (Spaulding) Schneider on July 11, 1921 in rural Lacona. She attended school in Bauer. On February 4, 1941, Catherine was united in marriage to Bill Putz. The couple farmed near Rosemount until 1971, when they moved into Lacona. Together, Catherine and Bill raised seven children. After Bill's death, Catherine married Virgil Schurman in February 1975. Catherine and Virgil spent several winters in South Texas during their 27 year marriage. Besides caring for and spending time with her family, Catherine enjoyed gardening, quilting and playing the card game Solo. Her children, grandchildren and many friends have fond memories of home cooked cinnamon rolls, hot cocca and rice after Sunday morning Mass, chicken & noodle dinners, and watching her stitch on the current quilt. Catherine was always pleased to open her door and table to extended family and friends. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church (Rosemount) and later in Lacona. Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and a sister, three infant children, a grandson, as well as her husbands, Bill and Virgil. Surviving are her children: Jerry (JoAnn) Putz, Judy (Chris) Garrett, Marge Williams, Ed (Carol) Putz, Barb (Tom) Hanna, Bob (Kay) Putz, Tony (Sue) Putz, 18 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, two great grandchildren, seven stepchildren, 21 step grandchildren, 30 step great grandchildren, 18 step great great grandchildren, sister, Rosie (Bill) Babcock, her brother Herm, two sisters-in-law, Louise Schneider, Ro (Schneider) Hunter and a brother-in-law, Harold Capaule. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lacona with Fr. Dean Nimerichter officiating. Interment will be in Rosemount Cemetery near Milo. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Lacona. A Rosary will take place 6:00 p.m., Tuesday evening at the funeral home with Fr. Dean Nimerichter. Memorials may be given to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lacona.
