Carey was a kind, generous person who cared about others and loved to make people smile. She connected easily with children and animals. She fondly remembered her high school drama club days and the fun of acting. In high school plays she could bring the house down with a well-timed line. Carey graduated from Iowa State University in 1993 with a degree in early childhood education. After college, she worked in New Jersey for several years as a nanny, then moved to the Chicago area where she worked at Mooseheart, a residential childcare facility for children and teens in need. She also worked at Apple Tree Learning Center, Iowa Methodist Daycare, and Christ the King School in the Des Moines area. She worked for Hy-Vee Aisles Online until her diagnosis with cancer. In her free time, Carey enjoyed connecting with friends, researching family genealogy, and volunteering her time with a variety of charities, including the Animal Rescue League. She was an avid sports fan. She loved her Iowa State Cyclones and was thrilled to watch her beloved Chicago Cubs win the World Series and the Kansas City Chiefs win the Super Bowl. Carey is survived by her parents, Mike and Phyllis Bishop of Chariton, IA, brother Dan Bishop of Oakland, CA, sister Laura Bishop of Alexandria, VA, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, and her beloved cat Snowflake. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Harold & Vivian Bishop and Gilbert & Agnes Wendel and her aunt Janice Riggenbach. The Bishop Family thanks the doctors, nurses, aides, and staff of Circle of Life Hospice and Legacy Lodge in Chariton and Taylor House in Des Moines for the unfailing care and support they provided to Carey and her family.
