Bruce was born to Orval and Arlene (Wallace) on June 22, 1962, in Albia, Iowa. He attended Twin Cedars High School, where he met the love of his life, Carla Hugen at the age of 14. They were united in marriage on November 14, 1981, in Marysville at his aunt and uncle’s. Bruce and Carla shared 41 years of marriage and were blessed with three children, Jeremy, Jessica, and James. Bruce was also blessed with 6 grandchildren, Zoe-Jayn, Cooper, Brady, Blayke, Jordan, and Carly.
Bruce loved to hunt and fish and look for mushrooms and Indian artifacts. He also liked boating on the river. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren doing these activities. Bruce was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
Bruce worked hard at construction for many years, working his way up to a foreman for United Contractors, building bridges and at various other construction jobs. He then worked at Pella Corporation for 15 years, before retiring due to his health.
Bruce is preceded in death by his parents, Orval and Arlene; brother, Jeff; sister, Rhonda; grandparents, Paul and Lyla Wallace; and Arthur and Elizabeth May Pettyjohn. He is also preceded by his in-laws, Lyle and Donna Hugen.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Carla; three children, Jeremy of Marysville, Jessica of Hamilton, and James of Marysville; six grandchildren; brothers, Doug (Kim) of Bussey, Paul of Knoxville, Roger of Hamilton, and Rusty of Knoxville; sister, Rebecca of Prairie City; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A visitation will be held on Monday, February 20, 2023, beginning at 10:00 A.M. at the Winfield Funeral Home in Knoxville. Bruce’s family will be present from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. to greet friends and relatives. At the conclusion of visitation, a prayer and song will be shared.
Memorials may be given in Bruce’s memory to his family or Hospice of Pella.
