He was born to Donald Bertram and Joan (Stansbery) Kingsbury on January 11, 1953 at the Yocom Hospital in Chariton, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lucas County Veterans Memorial Park or to the Together Tuesday Meals at the First United Methodist Church in Chariton. He was raised in Chariton and graduated from Chariton High School, class of '71. He attended Drake University and graduated with a degree in financing in 1974. After working at Drake University, he moved back to Chariton where he worked for L & K Insurance. He and David Laing bought the business from their fathers in 1987. The employees at L & K knew Bruce was a fair and generous employer. He considered his employees family. Bruce and David sold the agency in 2011 and Bruce retired. In 2002, he met his future wife, Melissa P. Johnson. Sixteen years later, in 2018, on November 8, they were married in a private ceremony at their home. Bruce never got in a hurry about anything. During his retirement, they enjoyed travelling and spent several winters in Arizona. He loved spending time with his many friends and researching any topics they brought to his attention. Everyone could count on Bruce to find the answer to any question including weather around the world, game statistics, point spreads, and even the right channel to watch the game. Bruce was deliberate in everything he did. He enjoyed challenging his mind and was very interested in learning new things. All who met Bruce knew he could do math faster in his head than they could do on a calculator. He was a man of his word and could be counted on to get the job done. After Bruce's dad passed away, Joan moved to Chariton and Bruce kept in constant contact with her to make sure she had everything she needed. He was a great comfort to her. He and Melissa enjoyed their life together. Covid or not, they were inseparable. They shared a love that was second to none. Bruce was a generous, brilliant, kind-hearted gentleman. He had a quiet faith in the Lord that provided him strength and compassion that could be seen in the way he lived and loved. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, including his mother, Joan Kingsbury; his wife, Melissa Johnson; father and mother-in law, Jackie and Ruth Johnson; brother-in-law, Noland (Melia) Johnson; nieces and nephews: Maddy Johnson, Frankie Johnson, Max Johnson, Curran (Sara) Kingsbury, and Ryan Kingsbury; along with many relatives and dear friends. Preceding Bruce in death were his father, Donald Kingsbury; and brother, Kevin Kingsbury. Cemetery Details Chariton Cemetery HWY 14 and HWY 34
