Sullenger was born March 9, 1959 in McMinnville, Oregon to Virgil and Eileen (Nelson) Sullenger. He grew up in various mill towns in Oregon, Colorado and Washington. He always worked hard, beginning with lawn mowing and delivering newspapers. As a teenager, he planted over a million trees in reforesting projects in and around the Puget Sound area in Washington State. He attended Bible school in British Columbia, then entered the Air Force in 1982. He was honorably discharged in 1986 as an E4 Senior Airman. He was proud of both accomplishments. He lived in many places, but returned back to Oregon and met his wife, Tami. Six months after their marriage, they entered into his life's calling as a Servant of the Lord in fulltime ministry. He ministered in Siletz, Oregon; Toppenish, Washington; Centralia, Washington; Powers Lake, North Dakota; and finally in Chariton, Iowa. His many hobbies were woodworking, remodeling, gardening, and building on to churches and building his dream log home. He was very compassionate and loved working with his hands. He did not have a selfish bone in his body. He enjoyed working with his boys on remodels, always enjoying a job well done. He was very involved in his children's lives. He was deeply loved by all. Bruce is survived by his wife, Tami; 3 sons: Sean Sullenger of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Ben (Annika) Sullenger of Gresham, Oregon, and Aaron Sullenger of Chariton, Iowa; an adopted daughter, Grace (Chad) Larson and their three children: Elizabeth, Samantha, and Brandon; brothers: Ron (Linda) Sullenger and Scott (Tammy) Sullenger; sisters: Gayle Schaeffer and Suzan (Ron) Howell; and many nieces and nephews.
