A Celebration of Life Service for Bruce Chambers will be held Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the Knoxville First United Methodist Church. Family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 9:30 a.m.  Interment will be at the Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bruce Chambers family and will be designated at a later date with the idea of providing a memorial bench on one of the bicycle trails Bruce loved to ride.

Stephen Bruce Chambers was born February 14, 1953, to Don and Bonnie Chambers in Knoxville, Iowa. Bruce was raised in Knoxville alongside his brothers, Tim and Brian. He attended Knoxville Community Schools with the class of 1972.

As a young man he began farming the family farm. He was a hard worker and meticulous in everything that he did. Bruce kept the farm equipment in perfect condition. He enjoyed working in the shop, especially on his personal vehicles. Bruce held on to the 1970 Nova that he bought in high school. It was in great shape, but he hesitated to drive it for fear of tracking dirt into his immaculate garage.

Woodworking was one of his favorite past times. Bruce was a master craftsman of fine furniture. Everything that he made was perfect.

Bruce spent a lot of his time outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, cutting wood, and being out in the timber. He spent so much time in the woods that he rigged a coffee pot to a generator so that he always had a fresh cup of coffee. As much as he enjoyed time in nature, Bruce did not share his brother’s love of the lake. He joined Tim and Brian at the lake one time and decided that it was not for him.

Bruce was an avid bicyclist. He put in countless hours on his bicycle while navigating his favorite trails. He lived a very healthy lifestyle; exercising regularly and sticking to a healthy diet. Bruce kept busy in his garden and canned many of his own vegetables.

He was a dreamer and loved to learn and try new things. He tried his hand at radio-controlled airplanes, and he dreamed of living off the grid in either Alaska, Wyoming, or Montana. Although he never relocated, Bruce was always happy on the farm.

Bruce passed away suddenly on April 20th and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his brothers, Tim (Paula) Chambers and Brian Chambers, and many extended family and friends.
