Bobby "Bob" Gene Smith

Bobby “Bob” Gene Smith, age 91, of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Good Samaritan Society in Indianola.
Bob was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on October 11, 1928, the son of Homer and Sadie (Hobbs) Smith. Bob attended school at Cleora, Oklahoma. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942 and served in the Pacific during WWII. After his discharge in 1946, he came to Iowa where he met Doris Cordell, the love of his life. They were united in marriage on September 7, 1947 at the Methodist Church in Boone, Iowa.
Bob and Doris began farming in Story County, Iowa, before moving to Marion County in 1958. Bob farmed until 2016, when he and Doris moved to Homestead Assisted Living in Knoxville, where he resided until his passing.
Bob’s wishes were to be cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 22, 2020 from 1:00 P.M. - 3:00 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Knoxville.
Bob is survived by his children, Tom (Anna) Smith of rural Knoxville and Sheryl (Randy) Chambers of Knoxville; four grandsons, Chad E. Smith and Tom D. Smith, Scott Chambers and Todd Chambers; 10 great-grandchildren, Sammy, CodyRay, Madysen, Cutter, Quill, Gatlin, Aniston, Harper, Gracey, and Robbie; and one great-great grandson, Graden.
Bob is preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Doris Smith; parents, Homer and Sadie Smith; one brother, one sister, and one grandson, Jeffrey Chambers.
Memorials may be given in Bob’s memory to his family and will be designated at a later date.
