She was one of four daughters born to the couple. After graduating from high school, Betty went on to earn a two year degree at Gates Business College in Waterloo. While living in Waterloo, Betty met Cecil Redding on a blind date. The couple was united in marriage on February 23, 1952. They made their home in the Waterloo and Jesup area. Betty worked at Mid American Canning before the couple was blessed with children. Once she became a mother, Betty enjoyed staying home and raising her children. She loved spending time outdoors; mowing the lawn, fishing, and going on picnics with her family. Betty also looked forward to planning family vacations with Cecil and the kids. Once the kids were in school, Betty took a job at MHI in Independence. She worked there for twenty-five years before retiring in 1994. In 2005, Cecil and Betty moved to Humeston, Iowa. Betty was an avid reader and a talented seamstress. She made many beautiful quilts over the years. She was creative and liked to work on craft projects. Betty also had a beautiful singing voice. Above all else, she loved spending time with her family. Betty and Cecil were blessed with many children and grandchildren and looked forward to every family get-together. Betty passed away July 28, 2020. She will be dearly missed by her husband Cecil Redding; children: Kristine (Dan) Thomas, Debra (Don) Nelson, and Paul Redding; grandchildren: Court Thomas, Justin Thomas, Brandon Redding, Lacia Redding, Jared Nelson, and Tyler Nelson; and great grandchildren: Madison, Hunter, Austin, Jacob, Liberty, Dominick, and Lucy.
