Barbara Jean (Mattise) Pottorff, age 89, formerly of Hamilton, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at West Ridge Specialty Care in Knoxville.
Barbara was born on April 27, 1931 in Albia, Iowa, the daughter of Mike and Verna (Fedro) Mattise. Barbara attended and graduated from Lovilia High School.
Barbara was united in marriage to Paul “Junior” Pottorff on June 16, 1951 and they were blessed with two children; Sandra and Tim. Barbara and Junior raised their family in Hamilton and lived in Hamilton for over 65 years before Junior passed on April 27, 2017.
Barbara was a homemaker most of her life. She worked part-time at the Hamilton Post Office and was active with the Hamilton United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Woman Organization. She loved her family, was a wonderful cook, and for many years helped Junior raise a big garden.
Barbara is survived by her two children; Sandra (Pat) Dyer of Knoxville, Tim Pottorff of Knoxville; five grandchildren, Stephanie (Scott) Vickroy, Katy (Rob) Burton, Rebecca Pottorff, Mallory Pottorff, and Trey (Emily) Pottorff; one step grandson, Kevin Dyer; eight great-grandchildren, Skyler Spaur, Colton Spaur, Lauren Burton, CJ Burton, Olen VanSant, Evan Dawson, Garrett Dawson, and Lenni Dawson; and one great great-grandson, Zadik Spaur.
Barbara is preceded in death by her husband Paul “Junior” Pottorff; her parents Mike and Verna Mattise; and five siblings, Charles Mattise, Ed Mattise, Irene Vander Sluis, Dorothy Morgan, and Theresa “Tuffy” Hutt.
The Winfield Funeral Home in Knoxville is assisting Barbara’s family with services.
