Anna "Pauline" Wilson

Anna “Pauline” Wilson, age 94, of Bussey, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Pauline was born on was born on November 6, 1927, at her family home in rural Monroe County, Iowa, the daughter of James and Annie Smith. Pauline was the youngest of nine children. She attended country school, before graduating from Bussey High School, Class of 1945. During high school, Pauline played 6 on 6 basketball and was an outstanding player. She helped to lead her team to the champions of Marion County in 1945. Pauline enjoyed attending state tournaments for many years after that.
Pauline was united in marriage to David “Gene” Wilson on April 26, 1947. They were blessed with three children, David, Mark, and Kathy. Pauline and Gene enjoyed 42 years of marriage before his passing on November 22, 1989.
During high school, Pauline was employed at the family restaurant in Bussey. Following high school, she worked at the State Bank of Bussey for a time, and then was a proud owner of Wilson’s Garage in Bussey from 1952 to 1987. Pauline was a hard worker and helped wherever she was needed.
Pauline enjoyed reading, gardening, and bird watching. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan and loved watching their games. Her favorite sporting events were the ones that her grandchildren were playing in. Pauline also liked shopping (gambling); and her family has many fond memories of her Sunday family dinners, and Holiday dinners. Pauline was happiest spending time with her family.
Pauline is preceded in death by her parents, James and Annie Smith; husband, Gene Wilson; son, David Gene Wilson II; four brothers and four sisters.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Mark (Cecilia) Wilson of Bussey, and Kathy (Mike) McDowell of Nevada. Pauline is also survived by six grandchildren, Steph (Robb) Sterner, Stacy Wilson, Lindsay (Steve Grimes) Wilson, Katie (Chase) Hepker, Drew Wilson and fiancée, Kristin, and Kelsey Hedrick; also, twelve great-grandchildren, Payton and husband Blake, Jetta, Katra, Teagen, Tobin, Taryn, Jensen, Tess, Saylor, Weber, Ripley, and Auggie.
A visitation for Pauline will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2022, from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at the United Methodist Church of Bussey. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 A.M., also at the church. Burial will take place at the Bussey Cemetery. Following services, a luncheon will be held at the church.
Memorials may be given in Pauline’s memory to the United Methodist Church of Bussey, Bussey Comm. Library or Greenlawn Cemetery Assoc.
