Anna Carol “Ann” Simmons, age 82, of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, July 3, 2021, at her residence in Knoxville.
Ann’s wishes were to be cremated with a celebration of her life to be held at a later date.
Anna was born on July 16, 1938, in West Liberty, Iowa. She was the seventh child of thirteen children of Ernest Kermit and Mina Erma (Shore) Wagner. Anna and her family lived in several towns before moving to Knoxville. Ann attended Knoxville High School, were she enjoyed singing in the chorus and the glee club. She graduated from the Class of 1956.
On January 19, 1957, at the Apostolic Church in Knoxville, Iowa, Ann and Harold Eugene Simmons were united in marriage. Ann and Harold shared 54 years of marriage together and were blessed with four children: Wayne, Cathy, Henry, and Donald. Harold died on December 22, 2011.
Ann worked various jobs around Knoxville and for many years she worked as a secretary at Therma gas. Ann was a long-time member of the Apostolic Church and for 16 years she played the organ. She was a wonderful singer all her life and had a passion for music.
Left to honor her memory are her four children, Wayne (Michelle) Simmons of Glenpool, OK, Cathy (Steven) Breazeale of Trenton, MO, Henry (Cheryl) Simmons of Sun City, AZ, Donald (Shelley) Simmons Brookfield, MO; 16 grandchildren, Wayne Simmons, Jr., Alisha Turner, Devin Simmons, Delanie Simmons, Brendan Clarke, Barton Clarke, Jacoby Clarke, Christine McCombs, Clayton Mart, Ashley Breazeale, Cheyanne Breazeale, Blake Simmons, Joseph Simmons, Brandon Simmons, Bailey Seid, and Jade Seid; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Ann is also survived by her two sisters Ramona Barnard and Esther Clarke both of Knoxville.
Ann is preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Mina Wagner; her husband of 54 years, Harold Simmons; one grandson Ryan Simmons; seven brothers; and three sisters.
