Andrew George Gasper, age 90, of Albia, Iowa died Wednesday, September 27, 2006 at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia. He was born March 7, 1916 at Old Maple Coal Camp in Monroe County, Iowa to Andrew Peter and Elizabeth (Yarkosky) Gasper. George was a graduate of Lovilia High School, class of 1933 and attended Junior College. After college he went into the C.C.C. Camp and then enlisted into the U.S. Navy Air Corp. He later served in the Navy during World War II. After the service George came back to Albia and worked for the Supply Store/Hy-Vee. He had also worked for John Deere Ottumwa Works for over 30 years, from which he retired. He was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Albia, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 4167 and a Fourth Degree Knight of James Baldridge Assembly No. 1925 of Albia. He served as Grand Knight from 1962-63 and was Faithful Comptroller for over 30 years. He was a member of the Howard Cessna Post American Legion No. 136 for over 50 years. George had a passion for flying his airplane, baseball and his faith. He is survived by three sisters, Margaret Evans of Albia, Verna Migatz of Miramar, FL and Geradine Comer of Ottumwa. George was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Joseph, Gerald, Thomas Gasper and John Edward Gasper in infancy. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 30, 2006 at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Albia with Rev. William Walter, C.PP.S. officiating. Burial with full military rites will be conducted by the Howard Cessna Post No. 136 American Legion of Albia will be in St. Mary?s Cemetery in Albia. Visitation will open after 11:00 A.M. Friday at the Winfield Funeral Home in Albia with a K.C. Rosary service with Fourth Degree Honor Guard followed by a Christian Wake service at 7:00 P.M. The family will be present from 6-8 P.M. Friday evening at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to St. Mary?s Catholic Church or to the Knights of Columbus in Albia.
