Alice was born on March 18, 1934, in Ames, Iowa to Madison and Virginia (Young) Akers. She had 2 sisters, Pauline and Della, and 1 brother, Earbie.

On July 6, 1949, Robert and Alice were married. They lived in England while Robert was in the Army, then returned to the states. They had 2 children, Terry and Tammy. They were married 71 years until Robert’s death on October 3, 2020.

Both Robert and Alice were baptized together as Jehovah’s Witnesses on June 27, 1975. They loved telling people about the kingdom of God and the hope for the future. Alice knew that Jehovah’s original purpose of a paradise earth with everlasting life for mankind would be fulfilled when God’s kingdom is set up here on earth. Her favorite scripture was Daniel 2:44, which reads, “In the days of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed. And this kingdom will not be passed on to any other people. It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it alone will stand forever.”

Robert and Alice enjoyed traveling and took many vacations over the years with Terry and Tammy, and later trips to Idaho and California with their brothers and sisters. One of the highlights was their trip the two of them took to Alaska in 2000.

On Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at the age of 87, Alice passed away peacefully at Comfort House in Pella.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; brother Earbie; sister Pauline; and husband Robert. She is survived by her 2 daughters: Terry (Perry) Mendell and Tammy (Curtis) Brummel; 5 grandchildren: Lisa Mendell, Scott Mendell, Casey (Brandon) Bertsch, Eric (Lisa) Brummel, and Bryan (Brittany) Brummel; 5 great grandchildren: Bentley, Braxton, Becca, Abel, and Axel; her sister Della Miller; and a host of nieces, nephews, and her caring spiritual brothers and sisters.
