Alice Mae Gelles, age 78, of Knoxville, Iowa passed peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 9, 2021. She was born February 22, 1943, in Appanoose County, Iowa to Vernon and Marjorie (McFatridge) Fenton. On September 10, 1961, she married Edward Gelles at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lovilia, Iowa.
Alice was a homemaker then began working at Griffin Nursing Home and later the VA Medical Center as a nurse’s aide. Alice always enjoyed long rides around Lake Red Rock, visiting close friends and family with Ed, sightseeing and relaxing at home.
She is survived by her husband in the home and her two sons, Tim (Mindy) Gelles of Knoxville, IA and Tom Gelles of Olathe, KS; seven grandchildren: Kobe, Tori, Heather, Meagan, Sean, Michael and Amanda; three great grandchildren: Jax, Hunter and Grayson.
Alice was blessed to be part of a big family that all grew up in central Iowa including Denise (Steve) Foster of Camanche, Iowa. Her siblings that passed before her are Rubye Mundell, Karole Denato, Ruth Steele, Steven “Bill” Fenton, Jerry Fenton and Delmar Fenton.
Alice was preceded in death by an infant son, Christopher Edward, in February of 1963, one grandchild, Christopher, and her parents.
Alice was a private person and requested a quiet service with family to be held at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Lovilia, Iowa, at 10:30 A.M., June 14,2021 In lieu of flowers, your thoughts and prayers are most welcome.
