Alfred E. Pettyjohn, age 88, of Bussey, Iowa died Monday, April 30, 2007 at the V.A. Hospital in Knoxville, Iowa. He was born June 26, 1918 in Everist, a coal mining camp in Marion County, Iowa. He married Verda Hugen on August 12, 1944 in Lovilia, Iowa. She passed away June 26, 1993. Alfred was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He had worked in mining, construction and then retired in 1982 from the V.A. Hospital in Knoxville. Four sons, Rick (Sandy) Pettyjohn of Cedar Rapids, Gary Pettyjohn of Lovilia, Dan Pettyjohn of Knoxville and Mike (Pam) Pettyjohn of Tampa, Florida; one son-in-law, Donald Haines of Bussey; 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild survive Alfred. Also surviving are two sisters, Wilma June West and Sally Wallace both of Albia. Alfred?s parents, wife, three children: Sonja Pettyjohn, Ron Pettyjohn and Sandra Haines, two grandchildren, Dani Nicole Haines and Donald Haines II precede him in death. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, May 3, 2007 at the United Methodist Church in Bussey with Rev. Jill Leveck and Jim Trinkle officiating. Burial with Military Rites conducted by the Bussey American Legion, Post No. 505 will follow the service in Marysville Cemetery in Marysville, Iowa. Visitation will open after 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at the Winfield Funeral Home in Albia with the family present from 6-8 P.M. Wednesday evening. Memorials have been established to Hospice of Monroe County.
