Alberta Mae Ryerson

Alberta Mae Ryerson, 89, of Bussey, Iowa, passed away on December 11, 2023, in Knoxville. No services are currently planned. In lieu of flowers, donations in Alberta’s name can be made to Animal Lifeline of Iowa located at 4521 SE 14^th Street, Des Moines, Iowa 50320.

Alberta was born on December 11, 1934, to Iva and Wilbur Bingham at their home near Melcher-Dallas, Iowa. In 1952, Alberta met Bill in Knoxville, Iowa. By September 24, 1954, the two were married. Alberta and Bill went on to have two children, Rick Ryerson and Rhonda Ryerson.

Alberta and Bill owned a dry-cleaning business and Harley store in Knoxville. During that time, they met so many people and developed life-long friendships. She also worked for Pella Corp, retiring in 1995. After her retirement, Alberta spent her time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved them all dearly. She greatly enjoyed spending time playing music on her organ, and always loved sharing her music with others. Alberta was also fond of enjoying the water on a nice summer day. She enjoyed water skiing even though she had never learned how to swim. She could be found floating in the water with her life jacket after falling off the skis. Anyone who knew Alberta was aware of her fondness for animals. It didn’t matter what type of animal it was; Alberta always felt an animal should be cared for and loved. Those who knew her will miss her big heart and caring nature.

Alberta is survived by her husband, Bill Ryerson; siblings, Gene (Bea) Bingham and Berthie (Greg) Gibbons; son, Rick (Teresa) Ryerson; grandchildren, Willy Ryerson, Tyler (Jennifer) Ryerson, Danny (Sara) VandeKraats, and Jessica (Zac) Stough; and several amazing great-grandchildren. 

Alberta was preceded in death by her daughter, Rhonda Ryerson; and her siblings, Kenneth (Lois) Bingham, Lois (Charles) Johnson, Frank (Shirley) Bingham, Ruth (Paul) Kennedy, Roy (Michelle) Bingham, and Hellen Bingham.
