Services for Albert Joseph "Joe" Gillaspy will be held on Friday, April 2, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Memorials may be made to the Lucas County Shriners or EveryStep Hospice in Knoxville, Iowa. A luncheon will be held following the service at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home. link Joe was born on August 16, 1939 to Frank and Beatrice "Bea" (Wilkins) Gillaspy on the farm near Lacona, Iowa at home. He attended school in Lacona. He later was in the Iowa National Guard. Joe was married to Nancy Bellon on October 3, 1959. They were blessed with four children: Alan, Kin, Tina, and Tonya. Joe & Nancy traveled the county for Joe's work and settled in Oakley in 1975 where they ran the salvage yard together until Nancy's passing. Nancy passed away August 24, 1988. Joe met Karolyn "Kay" Miner and was married on December 15, 1989 and welcomed three children Mike, Lee Bob and Missy. They were together and worked side by side until she passed on February 6, 2011. He was a foreman at LB Foster, where he dismantled railroad bridges throughout the country. He also transported cars for General Motors until 1975 returning to Gillaspy Salvage at Oakley. He finished his working career at Prairie Meadows, where he enjoyed all the people he met. Joe was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He held the title of President of the Jaycees while in Indiana, as well as President of the Eagles Club in Chariton. He would donate many stuffed animals to ensure kids were taken care of during the holidays. He collected toy tractors with his dad. Joe enjoyed attending farm sales near and far. He enjoyed playing bridge, 4-point pitch, cribbage, poker and going to the casino. Joe also loved to smoke meat with Charlie "JR" Shelton for weddings and graduations. Joe was a proud father who loved his family dearly. He lived a good life and went peacefully with his family by his side. Those left to cherish Joe's memory are his children: Alan (Brenda) Gillaspy, Tina Gillaspy (John Van der Hulle), Tonya (Warren) Chambers, Mike (Lynn) Bolling, Lee Bob (Renea) Bolling, and Missy Bolling; daughter-in-law, Michelle Gillaspy; 17 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; brother, Larry (Linda) Gillaspy; sister, Louise Krutsinger (Dwaine McCormick); brothers- in-law: Vic (Barb) Bellon, Tom (Judy) Miner, Craig (Sheri) Miner; sisters-in law: Vie (Jim) Howie and Carmen (G.W. Wilkins) Bellon; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his wives: Nancy and Kay; his son, Kin; his grandson, Jeffery Chambers; his parents; and all his in-laws. Funeral Service
