Freddie Cox was born September 25, 1919 near Milo, Iowa to Raymond and Lorraine Audrey (Whiltow) Cox. He graduated from Milo High School in 1937. After graduating high school he worked at an airplane manufacturing company in St. Louis until enlisting in the Navy in 1942. He served in the Navy from 1942 until 1945 in the South Pacific, Midway Island, and Honolulu. Freddie returned to Milo and married Doris McCleary on April 8, 1945. He farmed and did carpenter work until his retirement in the Milo area. Freddie was an outdoorsman's. He loved fishing and taking the dogs out to hunt. Freddie was constantly working on something and he could build anything. He made a hula-hoop for the girls and an adjustment table like what you could find in a chiropractors office. Freddie was also a die-hard Chicago Cubs Fan. Freddie passed away at the Indianola Good Samaritan Center on September 18, 2012. He is preceded in death by his wife Doris in 2009; parents: Raymond & Lorraine; and brother, Merrill Dean Cox. He is survived by his children: Carol (Ken) Smith of Indianola, Kathy (Joe) Luce of Pleasant Hill, and Sue (John) Dukes of Mansfield, TX; eight grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
