The service will be led by EveryStep Hospice’s chaplain Brent Osborne. Memorials in Adele’s name may be made to EveryStep Hospice Knoxville.
Adele was not very big, but she commanded the room, ask her husband and children, and they will say she was the boss! Maybe this partly came from having two brothers and being the only daughter born to Delmar and Elizabeth Carter. Adele grew up around Dows and Williams, Iowa and moved near Blairsburg her sophomore year of high school where she attended Northeast Hamilton High School graduating in 1968. It was during her sophomore year that she caught the eye of Jim Scott. They were sweethearts from the beginning and were married in May of 1969 after Jim returned from Vietnam. The couple was blessed with four children: John, Joe, Jim, and Angel. They raised their kids while living in Blairsburg, and then bought a farm near Stratford.
Adele was a talented seamstress. She could sew anything, she made clothes for the kids, drapes for homes, wedding and bridesmaid dresses, and all kinds of home décor. She loved to quilt and made many blankets for all her family. Adele also enjoyed working outdoors in her garden and loved to can her produce. She became a talented cook; her family says the wild rice soup and the chicken and homemade noodle soup were the greatest. Christmas was a joy to her as she loved having family all together. The grandchildren remember her homemade candies, especially the “Buckeyes”.
Adele and Jim made the most of life, they loved to travel and always took a grandchild or two with them on every trip. These weren’t just day trips, but special trips to Hawaii, Alaska, Paris, and other places, making memories that will never be forgotten. The two also made the most of retirement. She retired in 2003 and moved to the farm by Stratford, but they spent winters in Florida, and she enjoyed all her time on the beach. Adele could spend entire days at the beach shelling and looking for sharks’ teeth. They eventually made their home in Melcher-Dallas about 2 years ago where they loved the small-town atmosphere.
Throughout Adele and Jim’s 53 years of marriage she never left his side. She was always full of love for Jim and their entire family. Adele will be forever remembered in all their hearts.
Adele passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, September 17, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents: Delmar and Elizabeth Carter. She will be greatly missed by her husband of 53 years, Jim Scott; children: John Scott, Joe (Mindy) Scott, Jim (Heather) Scott, and Angel Scott; grandchildren: Breanna (Curtis) Marker, Hailey (Thomas) O’Rourke, Alaina Scott, Brenden Scott, Savanna Scott, Zach Choate, and Mariah Choate; great grandchildren Brynlee and Brooks O’Rourke; and brothers: Delmon (Virginia) Carter, and Lew (Kathy) Carter; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
