Abie C Davis was born in October of 1937 to Leo and Marjorie Davis, the first of 3 boys. He grew up on the family farm near Marysville and graduated from Lovilia High School. Abie attended Iowa State University through ROTC and learned civil engineering and land surveying. He practiced these all his remaining years, spending many years as the Marion County Engineer and conducting hundreds of land surveys in the area following his “retirement” from the county. He remained a lifelong Cyclone fan and enjoyed watching the games with his family.
While at ISU he met and married Jean Rinne (d.2004) with whom he had many joys and 5 children: Jody Davis, Ann Kuenstling (Mark), Amy Hoch (Marlin), Tad Andersen (Arick) and Dan Davis; 11 grandkids: Aaron Davis, Molly Coon, John Davis, Matt Davis, Abby Marshall, Jenny Herrera, Jason Hoch, Jessie Hoch, Jay Hoch, Ryan Davis, and Kyle Davis; and several great-grandchildren.
In 2012 he married long-time friend Joyce Jones which much increased the happiness in his household, and who is left to mourn his loss.
Many will remember Abie for his fast pitch softball prowess. Over a career of 35+ years he helped pitch his teams to the 6th Army National Championship, many Iowa State Tournament placings and twice to Nationals, culminating in his induction to the Men’s Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame in 2005.
Abie passed Wednesday evening at his home. There will be a small graveside ceremony for family at a later date. Any memorials may be directed to the family for a cause to be determined.
