Funeral services for Abbigayle Renee “Abbi” Funk, age 23, will be held Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home 202 E. Washington in Knoxville, Iowa. Family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 4:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in care of the family and the memorial will be used for the Keystone House in Grimes where Abbi has lived for the past 7 years. Abbi enjoyed the great people who helped care for her at Keystone House.

Abbigayle Renee Funk was born April 4, 2000, to Steven and Andrea (McCombs) Funk. A blessing to all who knew her, Abbi knew how to smile. She smiled with her whole being, even though she was non-verbal, everyone knew how she felt, there were lots of happy smiles, ornery smiles, and some with attitude.

She loved bouncy rides, horse rides, singing, spinning in the office chair, and rocking. Ice cream and chocolate were of course some of her favorite foods. She loved the water and was always first to take a bath. Abbi loved to go swimming too. And like everyone, she loved Taylor Swift, and was beyond excited to go to a concert with her family. She definitely had her favorite people, which were all her family, especially her Aunt Amanda. She was all smiles when people came to visit.

Abbi loved her brother, Andy. Growing up in Knoxville, she loved going to school. Abbi especially liked to ride the school bus. Sometimes the bus would hit big bumps and bounce her around, and she’d smile and giggle. She loved her people at school, the teachers, aides, and other students. She also enjoyed the cheer squad; the loud upbeat music and dancing made her happy. She played baseball at the Miracle League Park in Des Moines and really enjoyed that. She also participated in the Iowa Special Olympics for Marion County where she bowled, which she loved, taking home 3rd place.

Abbi moved to Grimes at the age of 16, where she could live on her own with the help of her caretakers and nurses. The Keystone house was a great place for Abbi, and she loved her people there. Abbi brought joy and smiles to those who knew her.

Abbi passed away December 15th, 2023, at her home in Grimes. She will be greatly missed by her parents: Andrea and Steven Funk; her brother, Andy Funk; nephew, Grayson Schrader-Funk; aunts & uncles: Bryan Funk and Amanda & Travis Hansaker; grandparents: Lonnie & Jeanne McCombs, Lois Funk, and Robert Funk; great grandmother, Martella Major; cousins: Meghan Funk, Jarred Funk, Bradey Funk, Savannah Pitt, and Trista Hansaker; along with many relatives, and friends.

Preceding her in death were her great grandparents: Howard & Betty Robuck, James & Colleen Funk, Donald Major, and Phillip & Patricia McCombs.
