Zeke Sanders

June 5, 1942 — April 14, 2017

Zeke Sanders, 74, of Chariton, passed away April 14, 2017. A celebration of life gathering will be Tuesday, April 18th from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. No services are planned at this time. Memorials are requested to the Lucas County Historical Society. William H. "Zeke" Sanders Jr. was born June 5, 1942 at home in Lucas County to William and Catherine Sanders. He attended Chariton School with the class of 1961. Zeke was married to Marsha Pierschbacher on March 16, 1974. He worked for Sam Irving at Irving's Station, Threlkeld's Gas Company, Farrell Gas, Williams Energy for many years, and he farmed with Joel O'Riley. Zeke liked helping Skip Trenary with the auger sales and the trouble they could find. He could do anything and enjoyed helping others, often going out in the middle of the night to help someone with a furnace or anything else that might be needed. Whenever Zeke's name is mentioned, first you get a smile, then you get a story about his wild and crazy sense of humor. He has been that way since he was a little boy; easy to talk with and always giving his mom and sister a hard time. He loved to tell jokes and stories and never lost his sense of humor even in his last days at the hospital. Zeke was for the underdog, he was persistent, and no one wanted to talk politics with him. He loved to garden in later years and enjoyed this with his grandchildren. The garden would be planted with radishes first, then harvested and given away, and then planted again. He loved to spend time with his family and always enjoyed teasing his girls. Zeke is survived by his wife, Marsha Sanders, of Chariton; daughters: Kim Jensen, Melissa Prough, Nikki (Rodney) Allen, and TJ (Joe) Lee; 13 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sister, June Moore; and many relatives, nieces, nephews, and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, William and Catherine; and an infant brother, James H. Sanders. Visitation
