William Darwin Bridges

Memorials - Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure William Darwin was born January 3, 1928 in Knoxville, Iowa to William Arthur and Marie May Bridges. Darwin passed away August 11, 2010 in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 82 years. Darwin served in the Navy serving on a Destroyer from April 1946 until February 1948 as a Fireman Second Class. Darwin was married to Juanita Anderson in Chariton on November 20, 1949. They were blessed with three children: Darwin Eugene, Kathy Marie, and Ronald Dean. Darwin was a farmer and foreman at Eagle Iron Works in Des Moines. He was a certified pressure vessel welder and instructor. Darwin belonged to the Steel Workers Union and the National Rifle Association. Family was important to Darwin; he loved spending time with them and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Juanita and William enjoyed their home at Rathbun Lake with all their family and spending time hunting, fishing, and camping. He also enjoyed country music and square dancing. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Juanita; children: Darwin Eugene (Cindy) Bridges of Oak Creek, WI, and Ronald Dean Bridges of Colfax; 10 grandchildren: Katie Littrell, Scott Bridges, Chris Ulrich, Paul Bridges, Kris Smith, Melissa Bridges, Leslie Bridges, Heather McConnell, Lacey Bridges, and Lindsay Teal; and 9 great grandchildren. He will also be missed by Princess. He was preceded in death by his daughter Kathy Chambers and brother Donald Bridges; and his favorite dog Kato.
