Valena Spragg, widow of Leroy Spragg, age 82, of Osceola passed away October 8, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 16th, 2015 at the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Hazleton, Iowa. Valena was born on August 13, 1933 to Evory and Valena Boothe in Independence, Iowa. Valena went to Cedar No. 5 country school by Mt. Auburn, Iowa until the school consolidated with Vinton, Iowa. She graduated from Vinton High School in 1952. After graduation she went to the University of Northern Iowa for two years. On June 29, 1953, Valena married Eddie Kirkpatrick in Waterloo, Iowa. To this union, two children were born; Penelope Clinton and Bradley Kirkpatrick. Valena took a break from furthering her education to raise her two children. In 1966 Valena and Eddie divorced. On July 6, 1972, Valena married Hilliard Leroy Spragg in Ester Park, Colorado. Leroy passed away in 2000. Valena finished her education at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa graduating with a BA in Education with a minor in both art and physical education. She owned and ran a ceramic shop for ten years until retiring. In 2002, Valena moved to Osceola, Iowa where she met Ronald VanDyne, her loving companion. To her blended family, Valena had ten children, twenty grandchildren, and twenty-one great grandchildren. Valena was preceded in death by her parents, Evory and Valena Boothe; son, Bradley Kirkpatrick; husbands, Eddie Kirkpatrick and Leroy Spragg; son-in-law, Steven Clinton; brother, David Boothe (Nita); brothers-in-law, Vernon Kirkpatrick and Gil Prather; and companion, Ron VanDyne. She is survived by her daughter, Penelope Clinton of Warrensburg, MO; sister, Viola Graham (Melvin) of Unionville, MO; Judy Unglesbee (Doug) of Michigan, ND; Jim Spragg (Pat) of Hudson, FL; Alan Spragg (Karen) of Oelwein, Iowa; Debby VanDyne; JR VanDyne and family; Lori Roof (Jeff) and family; Tim VanDyne and family; Nikki VanDyne (Connor); brothers and sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; grandchildren; great grandchildren; friends; neighbors; and one adopted daughter, Mary Bahe.
