Stan Shrader

September 4, 1957 — April 9, 2019

Stan Shrader, of Chariton, passed away on April 9, 2019 at the age of 61. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held Wednesday, April 24, 2019, from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m., at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Interment will take place at a later date at the Mt. Zion Cemetery near Chariton. Stanley John Shrader was born September 4, 1957 to John and Ida Shrader in Iowa City, Iowa. Stan was raised alongside his brothers, Steve and Scott, in Iowa City and graduated from City High School. Stan was in a motorcycle accident in 1986 at the age of twenty-six. The accident left him blind. Stan attended the Iowa School for the Blind in Des Moines, Iowa. He loved to help people and used his education to educate others. Stan enjoyed teaching children about braille and blindness. He always emphasized the importance of staying in school and wearing a helmet. Stan liked living in Chariton, Iowa. He said that everyone was good, honest, and quick to assist him when he needed assistance. He did take pride in being as independent as possible. Stan was a kind and social person. He enjoyed working for years as a massage therapist at Blong Chiropractic. He will be greatly missed in the Chariton community and beyond. Stan is survived by two brothers, Steve Shrader of Mesa, AZ and Scott Shrader of Iowa City, IA; special aunt, Ann Wade of Iowa City, IA; aunts: Mary Jo Wagner of Omaha, NE, Charlotte Schaffer of Cincinnati, OH, and Rosie Meer of Iowa City, IA; his best friend since high school, Ron (Belinda) Bain and their children, Dillon and Brianna of Laguna Niguel, CA; along with a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Shrader and Ida 'Chris' Cackler. Celebration of Life
