Ruth Kennedy

Services for Ruth Kennedy will be held Monday, February 1, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas. Family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials to the Activity Fund at West Ridge Nursing & Rehab Center. Ruth was born February 7, 1933 at the family farm near Gosport, Iowa to Wilbur and Iva Bingham. She attended country school and went to Melcher High School and then graduated from Johnston High School in 1952. She was married to Paul Kennedy on January 22, 1954 and they were blessed with six children: Janice, Mike, Dan, Jerry, Greg and Rick. Ruth enjoyed working and helping others. She had worked at the overall factory in Knoxville and TenX in Pleasantville; she had also worked at a diner in Knoxville and the Farm House in Melcher. She was kind of a mother hen, as she loved to help people. Friends will remember her smile and her walking everywhere in town, and they may remember her being just a bit strong willed. She enjoyed cleaning and rearranging her home. Most importantly she loved children and especially enjoyed her grandchildren. Ruth passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at the age of 82 years 11 months and 21 days. She is survived by her children: Janice Blubaugh, Mike (Barb) Kennedy, Dan (Rose) Kennedy, Jerry (Laurie) Kennedy, Greg (Rhonda) Kennedy, and daughter-in-law Joni Swanson; 16 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren; and siblings: Lois Johnson, Alberta (Bill) Ryerson, Bertha (Greg) Gibbons, Roy (Michelle) Bingham, Gene (Bea) Bingham, and sister-in-law Shirley Bingham. Preceding her in death were her parents, Wilbur and Iva Bingham; her husband, Paul in 2012; her son, Rick Kennedy; grandson, Jeremy Kennedy, and great grandson, Tyler Benjamin Kennedy; and siblings: Kenneth Bingham, Frank Bingham, Marjorie Hooten, and infant sister, Helen Bingham.
