Ronald Kirtley, 71, of Melcher-Dallas passed away Friday, May 2, 2014 at his home. Ron was born to Ray & Helen (Kendall) Kirtley in Marysville, Iowa on March 19, 1943. Ron worked for Maytag for 26 years until he retired. He was a member of the U.A.W 997 and New Hope United Methodist Church in Melcher-Dallas. Ron was a great handyman who could fix anything and was always tinkering with something in his garage. He was an accomplished welder and could put together a table with almost any piece of metal you brought him. He also enjoyed fabricating his own camping equipment to use while camping with his family. Ron loved giving his grandkids a ride on his John Deere mower and tractor, but when it came to his yard; the mowing had to be perfect. He also enjoyed traveling with his family as much as he could. Lastly, Ron was a talker. He never meet a stranger and always enjoyed good conversation. Ronald Kirtley will be laid to rest with his faithful dog 'Bunnie'. Survivors include his wife Melinda of Melcher-Dallas, four children: Jennifer Tille (Nick) of Derby, Bradley Kirtley (Trish) of Knoxville, Christin Little (Andy) of Knoxville and a daughter that lives in Tracy, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and an Uncle Anthony Kirtley. Funeral service will be 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at New Hope United Methodist Church in Melcher-Dallas with Pastor Jeff Flagg officiating. Interment will be in Dallas Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10-11:30 a.m., Tuesday at New Hope United Methodist Church. Memorials may be given to Hospice of Central Iowa (HCI) - Marion County.
