Memorials in Bob's name may be directed to Lucas Betterment of which he was a long time member. Robert Eugene Seuferer was born August 17, 1936 to Giles and Blanche (Sande) Seuferer at the farm on their family homestead near Lacona, Iowa. Bob was one of ten children born to the couple. He attended country school at the "top of the hill" and graduated from Lacona High School in 1954. After graduation, Bob enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed in North Carolina for three years. During leave, while helping his family on the farm, Bob was injured in a corn picker accident and spent time in Michigan, Chicago and Omaha for rehabilitation. On August 18, 1957, (one day after Bob's 21st birthday) Bob was united in marriage to June Ellen Chandler at the First United Methodist Church in Chariton. The wedding cake was purchased in Des Moines and was hauled to Chariton over Highway 65, which was under construction at the time. During the early years of their marriage, June worked as an IBM operator and Bob worked as a carpenter for his Uncle Gunny. After living a short time in Des Moines and Audubon, they returned to Chariton. Their son, Robin James was born on May 26, 1958 in Chariton. Bob went to work at Hy-Vee Wholesale in June, 1958. They were blessed with daughter, Renee Jean in 1959. They moved to Lucas in 1960, and in 1961 Ricky Joel was born. And then in 1969, Radley Jual was born. Bob was always a hard worker. He owned his own truck and trucking business, hauling grain. He farmed his own land while working fulltime. Bob was a proud Hy-Vee employee and worked for the company as a foreman in the Chariton Distribution Center for forty-four years. In November of 2002, June suffered a mini stroke and Bob retired immediately to care for her. Bob was very involved in the community. He was a member of the Lucas City Council, a volunteer fireman, and an active member of the Lucas Betterment committee. He worked alongside the other Lucas Betterment members to get the Lucas Community Center built. Bob also built a children's train to take to local parades. He was always quick to volunteer. Traveling was always a passion of Bob's. Some of the highlights from his overseas travels included participating in a bullfight in Spain, a trip to Hawaii, and visiting some of his mother's relatives in Norway. He also enjoyed traveling across the United States. He was a very adventurous person. Raising his children was his greatest adventure. He loved spending time with them, his grandchildren, and his great grandchildren. Bob passed away February 20, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, Giles and Blanche Seuferer; wife of 60 years, June Ellen Seuferer; and sister, Elaine Davis. He will be greatly missed by his children: Robin Seuferer, Renee (Leo) Pagano, Ricki (Teresa) Seuferer, and Radley (Elsa) Seuferer; grandchildren: Katie Peters, Kent Seuferer, Kelsey Seuferer, Nicolas Pagano, Lane Pagano, Allyse Pagano, Nicole Seuferer, Emily Seuferer, and Dayton Seuferer; great grandchildren: Morgan and Jensen; siblings: Mervin (Pat) Seuferer, Jerry (Kay) Seuferer, Dean (Vicki) Seuferer, Roger (Ann) Seuferer, Marilyn (Frank) Smith, Sharon Seuferer, Jeanette (Steve) Jetter, and Rose Wood; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
